F30 NBT FBAS video input (Apple Carplay / Android Auto possibility?)

Hi all,

I apologise if this has been covered before, but I've searched here and on google but haven't found anything conclusive.

When looking on obdii365.com, I found the following pinput for NBT headunit:

The additional FBAS inputs 3 + 4, on the seperate connector are marked as DVD and TV.

So in total there are 4 FBAS inputs: TRSVC (for rearview camera), Baseplate, DVD, and TV.

I presume TV is for when a TV tuner is installed, but the others, I have no idea!

Is it possible to pin these connectors, and then code them to enable video input to the head unit?

If this is possible, I imagine an inexpensive android box or a CarPC could be added to enable a makeshift Android Auto or Apple Carplay system.

Anyone know if these FBAS inputs can be used?

Thanks

I personally don't like these solutions as they're just a 'hijacker' inbetween the LVDS connection from headunit to display...

If possible, coding the FBAS video input would be cheaper and more elegant.

You are also assuming your car HU has all those inputs.

That's true! I didn't realise some would have it and some wouldn't?

Do you know what the pre-requisites are for these connections existing on the head unit?

Thanks

You need to pull your HU and see which model/connections it has.

Most HU do not have TV option and input for example. Many of the connections shown on your example might not exist on your actual HU.

Thanks!

Mine does have the socket for the 12pin locking connector on the back of the head unit, but I can't remember which pins (if any) are present.

So if I got lucky and mine did have DVD and/or TV FBAS connections: what's next? can they be used as generic video inputs?

Thanks again.

Hi, i'm currently looking into connecting a video source (chromecast) to my NBT.

I found this AV-IN socket from a Mini Cooper, which I want to install in my 435 armrest.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...66#84109264966

Next step would be to connect this AV-IN socket to my NBT.

Did you find out which FBAS to use? Btw, I have 6NR VO option already, factory default.

Thanks

Have you ever got it to work? I'm pretty curious about that. I couldn't find much info on the mini forums about this av in socket, not even anyone using it
