B48 - B58 HPFP interchangeability?
Has anyone tried upgrading their HPFP on their earlier model B48 to a stock one from a B58?
I am looking at running a bigger turbo and high ethanol mix (min E30) so am concerned about fueling. I am finding it hard to confirm if its a bolt in replacement. The current pump I am running (B48 in a 2014 Mini Cooper S) is part #13517636881 which is also used on plenty of 2 series and X1's - other B48 powdered cars. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=13517636881 Now, according to real OEM the stock B58 pump from 2017 onwards is part #13518631642 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=13518631642 This is also used on later model Mini's and plenty of 2 and 3 series which would run B48's. Logic says it should be a simple swap, but any insight from someone who's looked more closely at this would be appreciated. |

People are getting high 400s whp with the stock fuel setup + meth. Unless you are going big turbo it's almost not worth it.
The high pressure fuel pumps show they cross over b48/b58 but something that makes me thing it may or may not work is the cam follower: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...er-11327601233 This is the piece that fits in the head and "rolls" against the cam. It crosses over for n20/n63/b58 but does not state b48 or Mini Cooper with the b48 motor. Thus it's unknown. If they are indeed the same, it should work in theory. Perhaps do a part number cross check for this too in real oem? That's what comes across my mind for deductive reasoning. Hope this helps along your research.

I double checked and the camshaft follower for the B48 HPFP is the same as the B58 so it should work in theory. I'm planning on installing a B58TU HPFP on my 2017 330i so i'll let you guys know if anything breaks lol.

With respect to HPFP, there are the b48/b58 ones and then the b48tu/b58tu ones.
The TU ones are the ones on the supra and newer BMWs which flow more. These can work with simple replacement, relocating the jack (this should be able to turn and work with existing wiring harness) and require programming to work properly (which can be adjusted on the tune). With respect to the cams, the tri-lobe is main concern and I have measured the delta between the peak and valley which is consistent with the b58 which is good news. Very few people have upgraded nor need to upgrade unless running bigger turbo and high concentrations of ethanol. |

I was going to update this as I was looking over something.
In Navardi's guide, the can follower is the same as well. https://www.notion.so/N2x-B4x-HPFP-S...f2cd8b2c0b1038 Also, a wiring harness extension isn't needed if you clock the connector on the hpfp itself:

Thanks Guys,
The HPFP's for both my stock engine and JCW (later B48) seem to be the non TU B48 model, which has a different part number to the non TU B58 model, if these are basically the same pump, then happy to relax as it won't need changing. I've ordered a hybrid turbo and plan to run up to E50 as a blend, so with any luck the stock pump will do the job ok. |
