991 S or M4?
Hey guys,
I am thinking to sell my E92 M3 for the new M4 or a used 991 S. I have owned quite a few porsche in the past few years. 996, cayman s, 997, 997TT, boxster spyder, but they were all used cars! I drove my friend's 991 S PDK for a day two years ago. It was light, nimble, fast, PDK was amazing, handles awesome, and it is a porsche. I have been driving E9x M3 for almost 3 years now. There is absoutely no problems with my E9x M3s. The low end torque is the part that I dislike the most. Which occurs 95% of the time in city driving. Also I think it is a little bit heavy. Otherwise on an open freeway. It is awesome! I kind of want to get the new M4 since t is lighter, more torque, and most importantly. A brand new platform. If I get numb with power, I think can easily mod the new S55 while 3.8 n/a 400hp 991 S has it's limitation. M4 will be more practical, more spacious, real rear seats, a real useful trunk, and it is cheaper. 991.2 will be out end of 2015, not as practical, pretty much a useless front trunk, but it is a true sports car but very expensive when nicely optioned. By the time M4 is available, I believe a used 991 S's price tag will be similar to a brand new M4. I really want to get a car and drive it as long as possible this time. So I can either get the M4 when it is out or I could wait for the 991.2. Either way I could get to enjoy my V8 until I make a switch. p.s Is there enhanced preminum sound for the new M3/M4? I only see harmon kardon as an option. thanks all!

If you like low end torque, get the M.
I have a 991 C2S and the low end torque is definitely lacking compared to my 135. However, if you drive on the right side of the tach in the 991 in sports + mode (I have PDK), it is a beast! Of course if you can swing it, 991TT will cure the torque issue. Or wait until they put a turbo 6 in the 'non-turbo' 991 just like what they have done in the Panamera or Macan. |

I even find my 2012 cayenne 3.6 has better low end torque in city driving. 991TT is out my league. I think 991.2 might get the turbo 6 while 981.2 might get turbo 4. decisions decisions

the 991s is still well into the 80s, unless you find a stripped model for upper 70s. trust me, I have looked, I love the 991s.
also, the m3 comes standard with a lot more than a 991s. a loaded up 991s is basically the same as a lightly optioned m3/4. you cant get LED, heated steering wheel, heads up, lane departure, etc...on the 991. so what that means, is that basically a 70k m4 is equipped equal or better than any 991 you will find. thus, the price delta is at least 10-15k, and you have a car that has a very short amount of warranty left. a CPO car will cost well into the mid 80s. they really aren't that close in price, as my 2015 m3 order is 65k as I have it equipped and has features that most 991s that I have found don't. the 991 is an amazing car, but for me right now, its not 20k better. JMO

Sounds like you are leaning more towards the M4. If you don't like the lack of torque in the M you will not like the 991 because it has even worse low end.

+1 with Turbos in the 150k+ range with just a couple options and 4S in the 115-120k range the GT3 is the bargain...Problem is if you want a dd, the GT3 isnt it LOL

They say the 991.2 will be a 2015MY build dates in September 2014....Thats the rumor anyway..To your question I would always want a Porsche over a bimmer, the pricing has just gotten a little out of hand....I've owner many Porsche's mostly turbos but these days price of admission is 150k+ even lightly optioned. To the 991S I would rather have that then a M4 anyday

id like to add that its really hard to live with the 911 as an only car. it has zero storage space. I had a 997tt for a while and it was much more of a PITA than I expected it to be.

compare them on paper side by side and see which is important to you. For example, if you want cargo space, M4 is the better option. If maintenance cost is important M4 would be better..etc.
It seems to me for practical reasons, the M4 would be your better choice at this time. |

I have a love/hate relationship with Porsche having owned 4 911's through the years. Owning a Porsche is emotionally much easier if you're drinking the koolaid lol.

Everyone just tosses out the 991 GT3 as if it is a simple solution. My C2S ended up costing $5,000 more than the GT3 I would have liked to buy. The thing you have to remember is that you just can't walk into a dealership and buy a GT3. Even smaller dealerships are multiple deposits deep with no promise of future allocations. If you are lucky, you are looking at late 2016 delivery. I'm sure you could buy yourself a spot, but I'm guessing that is going to cost you $25,000 or more.

I had a brief stint with a 997TT as a DD. All I can say is this: Phenomenal power, itty bitty living space (Aladdin, if u don't have kids). Agree it was much more of a PITA than I thought. This is why any 911 is out for me. I need to drive my car, not garage queen it. I'd love a GT3, 911TT as a toy, play car. But for me it needs to be a spare, not a DD. Anyways, performance wise, M4 looking like it will best a 991S. Feel May be another matter...
